Welcome to our blog. Dan & I are hoping to use this method to keep in touch with family and friends while we're away this winter. You'll have to bear with us through the learning process - neither of us have ever done this before. If it works the way we hope it will, we'll keep you updated with our where-abouts and share pictures. We're hoping that you'll use it to keep in contact with us too. The most recent entry will always be at the top of the page, so if you're new here, scroll down to the bottom to start or use the archive list. Our apologies to anyone who found the Travelpod blog only to have it disappear on them, but this site seems easier to use and like I said - we're beginners, so the easier the better.

Still in Mexico

Today is our last day in Mexico. I don't have time to sort and organize, so these are just images of our last few days in random order:

A piece of artwork that Carl & Melody have in their front entrance hall. The artist is a local woman that just goes by the name of Joyce. Her work is displayed all over town.

At Capone's.

The new trellis with the new bouganvilla plants outside the "casita"

This is the oranges guy. He drives around the "hood" with a loudspeaker attached to the front of his truck; selling oranges. His spiel goes something like: "I HAVE ORANGES! FRESH, JUICY ORANGES! GET YOUR ORANGES HERE, FOLKS!" But the message is delivered at such high volume and with such urgency that if you didn't know any Spanish, you could easily think he was saying: "GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSES NOW! THE VILLAGE IS BURNING! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!" (Dan does a great impersonation!)

For our last dinner together we went to a place called the Lighthouse on top of Whale Hill. Nice place, great food and spectacular views of the harbour and city below.

Carl trying on a shirt at the yard sale that we went to.

This puppy was also at the yard sale. Everybody say Awwwww!

Lesley sent this photo of Mom on the beach in Puerto PeƱasco. It was taken about 30 or 40 years ago. (Mom is on the left) We spent an afternoon trying to find the place where it was taken.

I think we found it! This is us trying to re-enact the scene. There are palm trees where there didn't used to be palm trees and some of the houses are newer and the perspective is off, but I'm pretty sure we found the house where Mom & Dad stayed when they were here.

This was a few nights ago. We went to a cool Cuban restaurant that served enormous meals and tiny coffees.

Melody and her assistant planting herbs.

In case you got the idea that Carl & Melody live in one of those high end gated communities - this is the house directly across the street from them. (Marisol's sister lives here)

And the house next door to them. You can see their car parked in front of their house. This is the real Mexico, definitely not a fancy-schmancy resort area. It's great!

This is the local bakery - about a 4 block walk away. Good muffins and nice soft buns for sandwiches.

This is a local delicacy that we opted not to try. (Tripe)

At the beach.
The view from the Lighthouse restaurant.

We're gonna miss the nightly killer Rummoli games and the cut-throat Aggravation tournaments.

This is Tanya, the owner/bartender at Rene's. As you can see, she's a little bit shy!

The birthday shot for Melody's brother!
Happy birthday, Lance!

The Thirsty Parrot has Ladies Night on Thursday's. Ladies drink free. Melody & I managed to fool them into thinking we were ladies. I think after the 2nd margarita, they were on to us though.

Sayonora, Sonora.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our vacation within a vacation. Carl & Melody have been excellent hosts, but our welcome and our Mexican car insurance are both about to expire, so we have to go.

We'll be on the road again in a few minutes and I don't know when I'll find an internet connection again, so bye for now.
