Welcome to our blog. Dan & I are hoping to use this method to keep in touch with family and friends while we're away this winter. You'll have to bear with us through the learning process - neither of us have ever done this before. If it works the way we hope it will, we'll keep you updated with our where-abouts and share pictures. We're hoping that you'll use it to keep in contact with us too. The most recent entry will always be at the top of the page, so if you're new here, scroll down to the bottom to start or use the archive list. Our apologies to anyone who found the Travelpod blog only to have it disappear on them, but this site seems easier to use and like I said - we're beginners, so the easier the better.

We checked every eucalyptus tree in the campground, but nary a monarch to be found.

The Morro Bay Marina. There are as many sailboats here as there were at Marina Del Rey.

The famous Morro rock.

Weeds
Fun on the beach until ranger Gene came along and warned us that Taz had to be leashed. At least he was nice about it and we used him as an information booth. He was happy to assist.

Because it's not a blog entry without a picture of Taz in the water.

Thinking of you, Connie.

Another view of the rock

The weather is changing to crappy for the next few days, so even though we like it here and had planned on staying longer, we're gonna retreat inland and look for sunshine. We're heading back into the boonies, so may be out of touch for awhile.

Monarchs and the little mermaid

We're in Morro Bay, California which is a roosting spot for the migrating monarch butterflies. They say that every year there are hundreds of thousands of them in this very campground from November to March. One bounced off our windshield on the way here, but I think it must've been the one that turned off the lights and locked the doors on his way out 'cos we haven't seen a single one since we arrived.

Taz on butterfly lookout duty.

On the way here we stopped at a couple of great little towns. The first one was Santa Ynez. It was all done up like an old time western town. All of the buildings had false fronts and there were lots of saloons and antique stores. Very cool. I'm not sure why I didn't take any pictures. Hmmm. Not like me at all.
A few miles down the road is Solvang. Also very cute, but in a completely different way. Solvang is a little slice of Denmark in the middle of California. They even have a Little Mermaid statue. Sorry, the picture is blurry, but you get the idea.

It's a pretty big town, but it seems like everybody is in on the theme. Every business and a lot of private houses had the Danish thing going on.

This is where I bought the best raspberry danish that I've ever eaten. Go figure eh?

Some flowers that I liked.
